FRUITLESSNESS OF PRESIDENT JONATHAN’s COMMITTEE’ PRESIDENCY

On assumption of office by President Jonathan in 2010, one would have thought that the fresh air experienced under Late President Yar’adua would be a tip of an iceberg compare to Nigerians expectation from a “shoeless, son of a fisherman”, pls pardon my campaign idiomatic usage.

Anyway, the thrust of this piece is not to talk about endless unfulfilled promises from Mr President but to let Nigerians re-access if they actually bargained for “Committee” system of government.

In the almost 6 years of President Jonathan administration, is on record that 1,098 various Presidential/Technical/Special committees had been set-up to either study or implement policies/actions Nigerians desire urgent response with none of such reports ever productive.

Recently spoke with a friend who served in one of such committee as a ‘File Carrier’ or better still a PA to Chairman said he raked in N15m as remuneration and the report is still pending on the Mr President’s archive, among hundreds of such.

Some unproductive committees instituted by Mr President:

Presidential committee on monitoring of Pro-Jonathan groups
Presidential Special committee on Immigration recruitment Tragedy
Presidential Technical committee on Oil Theft
Presidential committee to study/draw-up implementation for Confab report
Presidential committee on Petroleum Industry Revenue
Presidential committee on Rationalisation/Restructuring of FG’s parastatals – scrapping of EFCC/ICPC as one of the recommendation
Presidential committee on Security Challenges in the North
Presidential committee on Small Arms & Light weapons
Presidential committee on Ms. Stella Oduah bullet proof cars/N255m stolen public funds.
Presidential committee on fact-finding bribery saga between Farouk/Otedola
Presidential committee on BSc/HND dichotomy
Presidential committee on Textile Industries collapsed in the North
Presidential committee on handing-over to newly constituted government in 2015, and so on and so forth.

Isn’t it true that Nigerians have entered one chance under our “Committee President”? Worst still, it is a government of the committee, for the committee and by the Jonathanians.

…….what Martin Luther King did not, what Lee Kuan Yew did not, what Nelson Mandela did not and what Barak Obama did not; Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is doing it. Keep doing it………

Loudly asking when would the committees finish doing it???
