Chelsea striker Didier Drogba declared fit to play against Wigan Athletic

Ivorian hitman will be rested midweek
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been passed fit after a calf scan revealed no significant damage, confirmed the Blues' assistant manager, Ray Wilkins.

The Ivorian was carried off during Sunday's 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur after scoring an impressive third goal for his side. Despite initial concerns, the injury appears to be nothing more than a severe cramp.

"He came off with the most horrendous bout of cramp," said Wilkins.

"We thought it was a bit more serious but the scan has revealed there's nothing in there so hopefully he will be okay to take part on Saturday."

Drogba will not take part in Wednesday night's Carling Cup third round match with Queens Park Rangers, though long-term injury victims Joe Cole and Yuri Zhirkov — an £18 million summer recruit from CSKA Moscow — will be handed their first starts of the season.
